Remember plants? It’s January, and here in Maine we have longer than we would like to admit until we will see life on all those bare limbs in the woods. That’s why from 1814-1861 Ann Longfellow Stephenson collected plants around her home (Gorham) and created a scrapbook of pressed plants called “Herbarium.”

Cartographic Creation
These are some of the first maps of New England, created by the French and then the English. The original maps (before they were printed for books) were huge, around 8x8 feet, and were tediously hand colored. The University of Southern Maine has a very thorough online exhibition about many of the maps from this period.
