Manhoru

Nearly all of the over 1700 municipalities in Japan have their own custom designed manhole covers that represent that particular place in one way or another.  Just one more example of how the Japanese are superior when it comes to incorporating design into daily life in smart and practical ways.  There is a great book documenting hundreds of these designs by Remo Camerota called Drainspotting.  There is also a flickr with over 2000 photos of manhole covers here.
